a new color...

this is the color of my world today...

white with shades of gray.

not much for color,
and i so loooove color!
don't get me wrong...
i'm home today because all of the wonderful white in my world.
and for that i am grateful.

it's just that i need a little pop of color

help for haiti

haiti...

the poorest country in the western hemisphere...

abject poverty that we can't begin to imagine.

~~~

and then came the earthquake!

~~~

the devastation...

the loss of life...

all of it...

~~~

so incredibly heartbreaking...

~~~

and yet the people sing!

and yet people are still being found alive!

~~~

what does that say about the people of haiti?

it says everything!

~~~

i am sooo impressed with these people,

the struggle they've been thru

and the struggle that lies ahead of them.

~~~

i want to help them.

i have to help them!

i will help them!

~~~

we all have to help them!

there are lots and lots of ways for all of us to help,

each in our own little way.

~~~

we can start by praying ...

~~~

praying for the people of haiti,

and praying for those

who are giving aide to the people of haiti.

~~~

and then we can give...

~~~

we can give help for haiti...

~~~

another winter's day...

it's another wintery day today...
snowy, windy, and cold.
another good day to be inside!

only snowmen could smile outside today!

i'm enjoying our fireplace today,
on this cold wintery day.
i always love our fireplace.
i'm enjoying it more than ever these days
because i got this greaaaaat candle
from bath and body works.
it's called "fireside."
so, added to the warmth and coziness of the fireplace,
with this candle, i get the smell of burning wood.
it doesn't get better than this!

tasty tuesday...

on all these frosty winter mornings...

what could be better with a hot cup of freshly-brewed coffee
in your favorite new mug...
from your favorite grandsons...

than some homemade granola?

this golden honey granola is
soooo yummy
and soooo easy!


here's the recipe so you can taste for yourself!

(doesn't it look good?
you're gonna looooove it!)



golden honey granola

1-18 oz package old-fashioned oatmeal
1 c dried cranberries
1 c raisins
1 package sliced almonds
1 c brown sugar
1 t cinnamon
3/4 c butter
1/2 c honey

in a large bowl toss together the oatmeal, cranberries, raisins,
almonds, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
in a saucepan melt the butter
and then stir in the honey.
pour honey/butter mixture over the oat mixture and stir.
spread in a greased 10x15 pan and bake
at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
cool in pan and store in airtight container.
eat and enjoy!

frosty thoughts of spring...

it really will be spring again one day!

i'm sooo sure of it...

these seeds are the promise of spring!

these morning glory seeds will soon enough
be the bright fuscia flowers
i see summer mornings.

this little bird will be lost among
grape hyacinths, daffodils, and iris.
later, it will be lost in purple coneflowers, black-eyed susans,
tall golden yarrow,
and more...

this birdhouse will be home
to another family
of swallows.

this rake will be the backdrop
to a beautiful snowball bush.


this garden gate will have
bittersweet climbing all over it!

today it's frosty and winter but soon enough....
soon enough it will be spring!

foggy frosty morning...

this was my greeting

as i headed out for my walk with morning...

fog and frost,

thick, white fog and frost.

very beautiful...

still and quiet...

peaceful...

and now i am back in our home...
refreshed and
ready for the day!

sundog's prediction..

the sundog was rite!

it is cold...

icy, bitterly cold!

-15 cold!

cold, cold, cold!

another day to be inside...

to

be warm and cozy,

drink some espresso-laced hot chocolate,

bake chocolate cobbler,

craft a snowman or 2,

and

love winter!

another day of snowflakes!

these aren't the pretty kind we had yesterday.

these are the kind that you can see blow across the prairie,

hear blow across the prairie,

the kind that make it so bitterly cold outside,

and the kind that make it especially sweet to be inside.

the sun is shining thru the bitterly cold, blowing snow.

the ring around the sun is a sundog.
the sundog forecasts cold weather.
i'm forecasting the same...

snowflakes...

my home is decorated with snowflakes on the inside...

and the outside!


it has been snowing all morning and shows no signs of stopping!

i'm not complaining! i love snow, and today,

because of the snow,

i get to be home,

cozy and warm,

all day!

i'm a happy girl...
