thoughtful thursday...

true silence
is the rest
of the mind;
it is
to the spirit
what sleep is
to the body,
nourishment
and refreshment.

harvest...

the wheat harvest
has begun.

but what,
or rather who
is in the wheat,
is the harvest
that brings me joy!
~~~
my grandsons!
~~~
the best crop
a grama could harvest!

has now added
it's pretty pink
to the show!
~~~
it's as pretty
as i thought it would be
and then some!
~~~
gotta love that sweet
and pretty pink!

wishing you a sweet pretty pink
summer day!

Thursday, July 22

pretty in pink...

i have been
not-so-patiently waiting
for my stargazer lily to bloom.
~~~
it's first bloom
opened yesterday
with more blooms to come!
~~~
isn't it beautiful?
~~~
i love it!
~~~
the pink
is so soft and pretty!
~~~
it was worth the wait!
~~~~~
~~~
~
wishing you a pretty pink day!
thoughtful thursday...
good bread
is the most
fundamentally satisfying
of all foods;
and good bread
with fresh butter,
the greatest of feasts.
Wednesday, July 14
better...
you know
how much
i love
to hang laundry
outside
on the clothesline!
~~~
i love it!
~~~
i love
how the laundry
blows with the breezes,
the fresh clean fragrance
of sweet summer dried
into the linens,
(my mom wishes
this fragrance could be bottled!)
and the crispness
of all the fabrics
when they are line-dried!
~~~
i was lucky enough
to find
a different type
of vintage clothespin bag
at an antique store
and
brought it home
for a pattern
to sew one of my own.
~~~
the hook
is the key
in putting together
this clothespin bag.
~~~
the clothespin bag
itself
is a large square
of doubled fabric
secured with 4 buttons
at each corner
to the hook.
~~~
this gives
the clothespin bag
4 separate openings
to grab clothespins from.
~~~
it's great!
~~~
i love it!
~~~
my vintage wicker laundry basket
was without handles.
i decided
to make my own handles
with twisted fabric.
~~~ i used the same vintage flowery fabric
for my laundry basket handles
as i used
to sew my clothespin bag.
~~~
cute, huh?
~~~
they're a matching pair now!
~~~
i loved hanging laundry
before...
and now...
~~~
it just got better!
~~~~~
~~~
~
wishing you happy laundry hanging!
peggy
~~~
p.s. if you would like more detailed instructions
to make the clothespin bag,
leave a comment
and i'll send them to you!

clary's capris...

i loooove these capris
of clary's!
~~~
i love clary!
i love the capris!
i love clary in these capris!
~~~
i love that
these capris
are full of
stitched and appliqued detail!
~~~
i love that
these capris
are full
of summer color
flowers,
and butterflies!
~~~
i love that
these capris
are worn and faded!
~~~
i love that
these capris are
girly and fun!
~~~
i love that
these capris
were jeans
in their former life
and that i found them
at a thrift store!
~~~
i love that
when they got too short
for clary
to wear as jeans
i repurposed them
into capris!
~~~
i love that
when i cut them off
i stitched on
more girly pink!
~~~
i love that
when these capris
are too small
for clary
i'll cut out
all the fun
stitchings and appliques
and decorate
a purse or bag!
~~~
i love that i'll
have these capris
(at least pieces of them!)
for a looooong time...
~~~~~~
~~~
~
wishing you long and lasting love!

Monday, July 12

a prairie walk...

an afternoon walk
on a hot summer july afternoon
thru a prairie pasture
is pure pleasure.
~~~
the birds, bugs,
and wildflowers of the prairie
are alive with summer color
and sound.
~~~
the black-eyed susans
with their yellow-gold petals
shine as bright and beautiful
as the sun.
~~~
~~~
~~~
pinky-purple
coneflowers
paint the prairie
with pleasing color.
~~~

the petite prairie wildflowers
are as pretty
as those
of a grander size.
~~~
the star-shaped flowers
of the milkweed
add more pinky-purple
to the prairie mix.
~~~
individually,
prairie wildflowers
grow in different
sizes, shapes and forms,
each possessing a simple beauty.
~~~
collectively,
these wildflowers
of the prairie
create a landscape
that is as ruggedly beautiful
and enduring
as the prairie itself.
~~~

~~~
the prairie's grasses
have a beauty, a grace,
and an elegance
of their own.
~~~
the grasses
are much more subdued
than that of the
prairie wildflowers,
but none the less lovely.
~~~
~~~
~~~~~~
~~~
~
wishing you pure summer pleasure...

Thursday, July 8

thoughtful thursday...

we are so busy
in our lives
that we need
to purposely give attention
to the everyday things
that can make
our lives lovelier,
such as keeping
a vase of fresh flowers
in an obvious place,
or several places
in the house.
planting roses
or other flowers
for this purpose
makes sense.
