an autumn surprise...

what a surprise!
~~~
i've been waiting all summer
for these heavenly blue
morning glories
to bloom!
~~~
this morning,
and all day,
has been like a summer day...
~~~
sunny and warm
and the perfect day
for blooming!
~~~
i'm looking forward
to seeing a few more
of these heavenly blue beauties
before this warm summer sunshine departs
and an autumn frost arrives.

unlikely autumn color...

crocuses in autumn
seem unlikely,
so it's not surprising
that their pinky-purply color
is also somewhat unlikely for autumn.
~~~
autumn crocuses
are a surprise,
in many ways,
in the autumn garden.
~~~
the spring-like color
of the autumn crocus,
the fact that they
come up without foliage,
that they bloom in autumn
when many other flowers
are fading,
and that they aren't really
crocuses but belong
to the lily family,
are some of
the surprises
that autumn crocuses
bring to your garden.
~~~
autumn crocuses
are a sweet surprise
to the ending
of my garden
each year.
~~~
i look forward to
their bright surprise of color
and simple charm,
reminding me
that soon
my flower gardening
will be ending
for another season.

on it's way...

it must be
on it's way...
~~~
autumn, that is!
~~~
this is my autumn clematis
and it's beginning
to bloom!
~~~
the autumn clematis
is blooming
and the last few days
have been somewhat
autumn-like~
wonderfully sunny,
somewhat cooler,
and incredibly beautiful!
~~~
as much as i will
continue to savor summer
as long as it stays,
i will welcome autumn
with all the gifts
and blessings it brings.

wishing you end-of-the-summer blessings!

sweet update...

the sweet pea
is as sweet
and pretty pink
as can be!
~~~
the morning glory
has now added
it's pretty pink
to the show!
~~~
it's as pretty
as i thought it would be
and then some!
~~~
gotta love that sweet
and pretty pink!
pretty in pink...
i have been
not-so-patiently waiting
for my stargazer lily to bloom.
~~~
it's first bloom
opened yesterday
with more blooms to come!
~~~
isn't it beautiful?
~~~
i love it!
~~~
the pink
is so soft and pretty!
~~~
it was worth the wait!

Monday, July 12

a prairie walk...

an afternoon walk
on a hot summer july afternoon
thru a prairie pasture
is pure pleasure.
~~~
the birds, bugs,
and wildflowers of the prairie
are alive with summer color
and sound.
~~~
the black-eyed susans
with their yellow-gold petals
shine as bright and beautiful
as the sun.
~~~
~~~
~~~
pinky-purple
coneflowers
paint the prairie
with pleasing color.
~~~

the petite prairie wildflowers
are as pretty
as those
of a grander size.
~~~
the star-shaped flowers
of the milkweed
add more pinky-purple
to the prairie mix.
~~~
individually,
prairie wildflowers
grow in different
sizes, shapes and forms,
each possessing a simple beauty.
~~~
collectively,
these wildflowers
of the prairie
create a landscape
that is as ruggedly beautiful
and enduring
as the prairie itself.
~~~

~~~
the prairie's grasses
have a beauty, a grace,
and an elegance
of their own.
~~~
the grasses
are much more subdued
than that of the
prairie wildflowers,
but none the less lovely.
~~~
wishing you pure summer pleasure...
sweet...
my sweet gardening neighbor,
leona,
gifted me with this
perennial sweet pea plant
last summer.
~~~
this summer
leona's sweet pea
is gifting me
with it's first blooms!
~~~
i love it!
~~~
the sweet pea
is accomplishing what
my nurturing instruction
quietly suggests~
it is
growing, growing growing!
~~~
morning glories
are growing
and sharing
the vintage garden gate
along with the sweet pea.
~~~
both flowers will
vine and climb and
then fill the gate
with their sweet
bright pink blooms!
~~~
how sweet is that?
~~~
sweeeeeet!

~~~
~~~
hooray!
~~~
and i'm loving
every minute of it!
~~~
lovin' it!
~~~
the flowers know it's summer
and they're putting on
their summer show!
~~~
the sky blue delphiniums...
~~~
the raspberry parfait dianthus...
~~~
the strawberry parfait dianthus...
~~~
the sweet william...
~~~
and the floxglove
are all
loving this very first
day of summer
as much as i am!
~~~
and i'm loving
this very first
day of summer
thanx to the
sunshine
and
my summer blooms!
wishing you many summer blooms!
Thursday, June 10
wild roses...
i have been seeing
wild roses blooming
along the edge
of the gravel road
nell and i walk
each morning.
~~~
they are so pretty
and petite!
~~~
as small as they are in size,
they're that big in fragrance!
when you can't see them
amongst the grass
and other wildflowers
you smell them.
~~~
heavenly...
~~~
i picked a handful
of the tiny
rosy-pink buds
and brought them home.
~~~
i gently laid them
in a small bowl....
~~~
and added some water.
~~~
this morning...
~~~
the sweet little rosebuds
bloomed!
~~~~~

wishing you a day of sweet blooms!
