a prairie walk...

an afternoon walk
on a hot summer july afternoon
thru a prairie pasture
is pure pleasure.
~~~
the birds, bugs,
and wildflowers of the prairie
are alive with summer color
and sound.
~~~
the black-eyed susans
with their yellow-gold petals
shine as bright and beautiful
as the sun.
~~~
~~~
~~~
pinky-purple
coneflowers
paint the prairie
with pleasing color.
~~~

the petite prairie wildflowers
are as pretty
as those
of a grander size.
~~~
the star-shaped flowers
of the milkweed
add more pinky-purple
to the prairie mix.
~~~
individually,
prairie wildflowers
grow in different
sizes, shapes and forms,
each possessing a simple beauty.
~~~
collectively,
these wildflowers
of the prairie
create a landscape
that is as ruggedly beautiful
and enduring
as the prairie itself.
~~~

~~~
the prairie's grasses
have a beauty, a grace,
and an elegance
of their own.
~~~
the grasses
are much more subdued
than that of the
prairie wildflowers,
but none the less lovely.
~~~
~~~
~~~~~~
~~~
~
wishing you pure summer pleasure...
