it's another wet and windy day here,

feeling a little wintery.

i know it's spring!

it just doesn't feel like spring!

because the lilacs

are ready to bloom...

and the dame's rocket

won't be far behind.

the grass
is green, green, green
and the clover is flourishing!

pairs of canadian geese
are back...

and the baby robins

are hatching.

it is spring!

catching the rain...

it's a wet rainy day

here today!

my rain barrel is collecting

as much rain as it can hold.

i'll have the water

when i need it.

there is water being

collected and held

in other smaller,

more delicate places...

this sedum is holding the rain,

catching all the little drops

in it's thick, gray-green,

succulent leaves.

~~~

this autumn joy sedum

is also catching the rain,

holding it gently

in it's spongy leaves.

~~~

we'll all have

water when we need it.

she can grow flowers

like no one else i know!

i love mrs. robert's

when i grow up.

the first saturday in may.

her sale is in her yard

on her farm

and is an event

not to be missed!

the rhubarb is coming...

spring has been

especially beautiful

this year.

the days have been

sunny and warm

and

the flowers are

blooming, blooming, blooming!

i can't get enough of it!

my sweet violets are beginning

their wave of pale purple

in my gardens.

the grape hyacinths

add more purply-blue fun!

the little flag iris

show off more shades

of purple!

and the berginia,

with it's soft pink clusters,

adds another color to the mix!

south dakota state flower...

the pasque flower
or mayflower,
is south dakota's state flower,
and one of the earliest
to bloom
on the praire.

the stems and outer flower
are fuzzy and soft.
~~~
the flower color varies
from white
to a deep lavender.
~~~
my pasque flower
is a domesticated one.
the lavender is much darker
than the ones
i see in the wild
which are a much liter lavender.

the seedhead of the pasque flower
is fuzzy and feathery
and suggests another nickname~
prairiesmoke.
~~~
the pretty purply seedheads
are as beautiful
as the flowers themselves.

took a walk

down our country gravel road

this morning,

as we do most mornings.

each day the sights and sounds

are different.

spring!

it is very promising

to see the leaf buds

on the trees,

blue skies,

and sunshine.

it was good to hear
the wind blowing
across the water
and making music
with the clinking chunks of ice.

it was also good to hear
the blackbirds singing
their own song of spring.

it's sooo good
to see and hear
the sights and sounds
of spring!
